FNAM is …

Celebrating today’s amazing new generation of original musical theater created and performed in Southern California primarily by home grown talent for new and expanding audiences in large theaters, smaller theaters, colleges, high schools, elementary and middle schools and cultural centers and on TV, cable and the internet.

FNAM 2010 is coming …

Highlights of the 2010 Festival will be our first original internet musical and world premiere musicals NIGHTMARE ALLEY at the Geffen Playhouse and HAVANA at the Pasadena Playhouse as well as Michael John LaChiusa’s SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE and Ricky Ian Gordon’s ORPHEUS & EURIDICE.

The festival’s educational outreach activities continued to grow (See Outreach). In 2010, we will continue to showcase and rollout the history-making American History Musicals project from Marquez School, using original musicals to teach American history. In 2010 the 5th graders will present their civil rights musical, CARRY ON. We will be working with UCLA on this mission. The festival will also feature another of the PUC Charter Schools’ rollicking hip hop Shakespeare musicals, this time TEMPEST TOSS’D. We will also the showcasing the work of CITY AT PEACE/INSIDE OUT and their work with at risk kids who in the process of working out their problems, create original musicals to express themselves.

In the meantime we'll be keeping you up to date with all that is musical all over Southern California ...so stay posted.

ORDINARY DAYS
January 3 – January 24, 2010

West Coast Premiere
Julianne Argyros Stage
Music and lyrics by Adam Gwon
Directed by Ethan McSweeny
Musical direction by Dennis Castellano

A promising star plucked from the new breed of composers in America, Adam Gwon is the latest winner of the Fred Ebb Award for Excellence in Musical Theater Songwriting. With Ordinary Days he hit the boards running in the USA and the UK, causing critics to sit up and take notice of its spare, fast-paced and lyrical form. From the bustling streets to the quiet rooftops, four young New Yorkers trying to find their way become intricately connected through a series of funny and fortuitous events that prove ordinary days can be simply extraordinary.

Recommendation: Especially in today’s trying times, this small musical resonates beautifully, and everyone will come away with a song and a smile.
