Festival Kicks Off 6th Season 5/1

The annual Festival of New American Musicals (FNAM) kicks off its 6th season on May 1, 2013 on the heels of the successful first year of SHOW SEARCH, the Festival's nationwide search for new short musicals created by high school and college age youth which concluded in March. The Festival will run from May 1 thorugh August this year and is expected to include SHOW SEARCH 2.0 in addition to new musicals and events including the first performances of the musical adaptation of the hit movie, Sleepless In Seatle, at the Pasadena Playouse and two unique new features — an every Friday night series of improvised musicals at the IO club in Hollywood and a Sunday night series of 30 Minute Musicals all of which spoof hit movies like Showgirls and Top Gun.

Since its inception in 2004, The New York Musical Theatre Festival has premiered more than 300 new musicals - more than 75 of which have gone on to award-winning productions in New York, in regional theaters and in almost every state and in 16 countries worldwide. NYMF alum Next to Normal won three Tony Awards in 2009 and was awarded the 2010 Pulitzer Prize. The Broadway production of NYMF alum [title of show] earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Book of a Musical. NYMF 2004 hit Altar Boyz played well over 1,500 performances Off-Broadway and spawned two National Tours.

The Festival of New American Musicals spokesperson, Darren Criss, announced the first nationwide Show Search for new writers in 2012! It was a hugh success. The 2013 season expects to launch its second online search to find the "Best New Musicals" among High School and College-Aged Creators.
